DIY loft-style lamp

Easy to make Ikea hack

Today I'll show you how I made a loft style lamp out of commonly accessible elements.
This lamp consists only of a few simple parts: utensil holder, shelf support and a cable.

Ordning utensil holder from Ikea and a lamp cable from Action store

Instruction:

A. Lamp shade - made of metal utensil holder

1. Ensure the cable diameter is smaller that the bottom hole in the organiser. If not, you'll need to make the hole wider with a metal drill.
2. Before painting, clean the metal surface with alcohol.
3. First, use the paint primer - spray one layer, then wait 2-3 hours until it dry out. There's no need to file the surface, the primer should stick anyway.
4. Next, spray two layers of back paint, again with 2-3 hours break between.

B. Frame - made of wooden shalf support

1. Plan, how you would lead the cable around the support frame. The cable can go in grooves, holes or be tangled around the frame. In my case it goes through small groove, a hole and then along the support, but I had to mount two hooks to hold the cable straight.

2. Drill the required holes, grooves etc.
3. Paint the support and wait until dry.

C. Combine all three elements into a lamp!

1. Disassemble the bulb socket
2. Lead the cable through frame and shade
3. Assemble the socket back
4. Mount the lamp on the wall
5. Mount the bulb in the socket
